Weekly Contact 30 June 2008

The recent weather conditions makes it so hard to believe that we are now moving into the summer holiday season! It's been freezing and wet! However, many schools have now closed for the summer break and people are already away or will soon be leaving on holiday. Pastor John, Ruth and Mark will be back with us this week. Others are still away. We wish everyone an enjoyable break from the norm regardless if you are getting away or not.

Things normally slacken off in church life during the summer, but I would ask you to stay focused and to stay committed and to let this show in your attendance at church and in your ongoing support of our activities. A special thanks to everyone for your ongoing support regardless of the season around us and regardless of the seasons in your life.

Thank God for another good day at New Life.

On Sunday morning Davy John brought an excellent message on Dealing with Weaknesses. Based on Isa. 40:29-31 and 1 Cor. 1:27 he went on to show the following:

> God is our strength who gives power to those who are weak
> What value is there with a title or a position without God's power?
> The weaknesses of the disciples did not stop them from becoming world changers
> Having weakness in your life does not make you a failure

Davy listed several weaknesses that might well be affecting us as individuals, but then showed how these weaknesses can be dealt with by an encounter with God.

On Sunday night Jonathan brought an equally excellent message that so much fitted in with what Davy John had brought in the morning. His message about Seeking God was based on the story of Mary and Martha showing that while is it is important that we do the practical things of life and of church, and that we do them well, yet our main goal should be to sit at the feet of Christ in our quest for God. He went on to show the following:

> Everyone is searching for something
> The greater the value in what is being sought after, the greater the search
> We need to seek the Lord while he may be found
> We need to manage our time well and ensure time to seek the Lord

Jonathan concluded by encouraging us to press in to where God is and to find him as we worshipped together. Both services finished with several people coming forward to encounter God and to press in to where he is. This shows that some are hungry for more of God, which makes all we do worth doing if we can help people discover and experience more of God.

What's on this week? The main thing is the Shane Lynch event. This has been well publicised. We are expecting a huge turn out, but would ask you to keep promoting it and to make sure you get there. That is Thursday at 7.30 pm in the building in Northumberland Street. If you want to know how you can help please contact Gareth, Jonathan or Davy John.

PRAYER: Continue to pray for Tracey Seawright's full recovery and also for baby Lucas. Pray also for John Warden who is in hospital and will undergo an operation. Also keep praying for Johnny and Heather in India, as we did in church last week. And Shannon in your thoughts and prayers.

Final thought: We have been reminded recently that: 'Amateurs built the ark, but professionals built the Titanic'. Now that's classy on its own, but I would add to this by saying: Anything you build with God will float, but anything you build without God will surely sink; and hey, just because your Titanic sinks does not mean you should try to sink someone's ark!

Hope to see you all again next Sunday, if not before.

SHANE LYNCH EVENT

We need your help to promote the visit of Shane Lynch, Boyzone. We are expecting hundreds of people from both Shankill and Falls to attend this event next Thursday night (3 July at 7.30 pm). It will be held in our new building. At the moment it is still an empty warehouse, but will be adequate for this visit and outreach. The building is right on the peace line in Northumberland Street between the Shankill and Falls. We have asked for the gate that is closed across the road at nights to be kept open for the event so that people can come in from both sides. It looks like this is going to happen and will be covered by the police.

For those in Belfast and across Northern Ireland we would especially appreciate it if you would announce this in your church. People can send text messages and emails to their friends etc or just forward this message to those on your list. If you are not in Northern Ireland, please pray for this event. This is extremely significant and can have major implications beyond that evening. We plan to take the event to another level in worship and in praying for the sick etc.

Wouldn't it be awesome if the glory of God would be manifest in such a place (well I suppose it would be awesome anywhere, but why not there?).

Please promote this event and come along if you are able to.

Thanks.

Jack

SHANE LYNCH

We need your help to promote the Shane Lynch event next Thursday. Send a text message to your friends. Email everyone you can think of. For those at school, get some leaflets at Top House and give them out at school before it closes. Ask your teacher if you can announce it in the class - or the assembly. Share the following:

Shane Lynch of Boyzone will be speaking at the old James E Ball warehouse in Northumberland Street on the peace line between the Shankill and the Falls, which now belongs to New Life City Church. Thursday 3 July 7.30 pm. Admission is FREE.

'Some' people are working hard behind the scenes to make this work. This is one of the ways you can help. If you can think of anything else or you want to see there are other ways you can help, please email or text Gareth Spud Murphy at Spudmurphy123@btinternet.com or 07841199209

Thanks

Jack

Weekly Update 2 June 2008

Hi everyone,

I don't know about you, but I sense that things are hotting up at New Life. The services are carrying a very real sense of the presence of God. It's like if you're not there you will probably miss something, but also if you're not there you might be keeping something back, because it's hungry people who bring with them the presence of God. Hungry people normally have nothing to bring anywhere, but people who are hungry for God bring with them the presence of God. So come on, keep coming out and keep bringing with you something of the presence of God.

On Sunday morning I spoke on 'AMBASSADORS OF THE ANOINTING'. The following were the main points:

WHAT IS THE ANOINTING?

THE ANOINTING IS THE OVERFLOW OF THE PRESENCE OF GOD ON A PERSON'S LIFE

WHAT IS THE ANOINTING FOR?

            1. THE ANOINTING IS FOR PREACHING THE GOSPEL
            2. THE ANOINTING IS FOR THE BREAKING OF POVERTY
            3. THE ANOINTING IS FOR SETTING PEOPLE FREE
            4. THE ANOINTING IS FOR HEALING THE BODY
            5. THE ANOINTING IS FOR DELIVERING FROM OPPRESSION

HOW IS THE ANOINTING RELEASED?

THE ANOINTING IS RELEASED THROUGH TOUCH AND THROUGH THE SPOKEN WORD

THREE SPECIFIC MINISTRY GIFTS THAT REQUIRED THE ANOINTING

THE PROPHETIC ANOINTING

THE PRIESTLY ANOINTING

THE KINGLY ANOINTING

All three above were perfectly in Christ. He has passed these on to us - 'All power....Go therefore.....'

Sunday Night: We heard a great report from Elizabeth regarding the ministry of H.O.P.E.

I spoke on 'ISLANDS OF THE CROSSES' showing that the British Isles has been dominated by crosses. The Union Jack is made up with the St. George's Cross of England; the St. Andrew's Cross of Scotland, and the St.Patrick's Cross in Ireland. Wales and Ireland are peppered with Celtic Crosses. The Irish flag represents Catholics (Green) and Protestants (Orange) and the desire for peace between both (White), but the only thing that brings real peace and reconciliation is the Cross of Christ.

However, these things do not make these countries Christian. These are days when God is stirring up the message of the Gospel in these Islands of the Crosses that once again the Gospel will be proclaimed with a fresh anointing; not with words of men's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and with power - to save, heal and deliver.

Afterwards we had another great time of ministry as we prayed for several people including those who recommitted their lives to Christ. My thanks again, on your behalf, to the Worship Team for their commitment and their sensitivity as they lead us in worship during our services.

Did you know: It is a fact that horses cannot vomit! Hey - we have someone in New Life who has this same horse trait! Answers on an email postcard - who do you think it is?

Final Thought: We are not meant to change the message, the message is meant to change us

Pastor Jack
