Weekly Contact 2 Feb 2009

Sunday 1 February was a good start to the second month of 2009. Thanks to those who joined with us; especially those who were not only with us in spirit, but were also with us in body. Having both body and spirit in church together is so much better.

Sunday morning message: "Seeking to live on the Spirit Level". Here I showed that the Holy Spirit operates on different levels as follows:

1. He operates on "Our Level", but he comes to our level for the purpose of lifting us to his level.
2. He operates on the "Physical Level" = Creation, where the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the deep to bring order and structure to the physical universe; Moses at the Red Sea; Joshua at the River Jordan; Jesus and his miracles etc.
3. He operates on the "Spiritual Level", by communicating through the teaching of Moses; the Prophets; Psalms; Jesus etc.
4. He operates on the "Moral Level" where right is always right and where wrong never becomes right.

I finished by showing that the Holy Spirit wants to operate on these levels in our lives and in the life of the church.

Sunday night: Thanks to JC's for their presentations that added to the service and also added to the message, which was "Facing the Giant of Rejection". In this I showed that we have all faced this giant (perhaps several times in our lives) at school; work; community etc. I made the following points:

1. Church is a place where no one should feel rejected.
2. The problem is not so much in facing the giant; the problem is in how you face the giant. David and King Saul faced the same giant (Goliath), but they both responded differently.
3. We looked at some who had been or who at least felt they had been rejected.
4. The way to slay the giant of rejection is to embrace the spirit of acceptance.
5. I finished by speaking about Jesus who was chosen by God, but was rejected by men.

Virtuous Women: This coming Thursday night beginning at 7 pm with some food and fellowship followed by guest speaker Stephen Rogers who is a qualified Doctor and a Pastor. He will be addressing the subject of stress. Come on ahead ladies, you need to get out to this!

Last week's challenge: was a competition to see who can come up with the funniest caption for the following picture: Several people did respond. So I have added the top 6 captions, but rather than me decide which one should win I thought I would put it to you to vote. So why not put an X after the one you think should win and send it back to me. Do not vote for your own!

1. Go ahead punk you have 6 I have 9
2. You can shoot me if you want Pastor Jack, but I still believe that cats DO go to Heaven !!!!!!
3. Don't shoot me Pastor Jack....Look! Look! Look! I'm worshiping now!
4. DON'T SHOOT, I'M ON MY NINTH LIFE HERE MATE!!!!!!!!
5. I AM ONLY JOKING JACK, IT'S NOT THE CHURCH'S FAULT
6. Would it be OK if I just jumped?

This week's challenge is a question: "30 divided by half plus 10 = What?"

This week's Bible verse: Proverbs 9.10. "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Pastor John Legge: We prayed for John yesterday. He is in the USA at the moment, but will be back home before the weekend. Pray his time there is a blessing to those he is ministering to and also a blessing to him. Pray also for a good trip back home.

Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.

Pastor Jack
