Vision Night

Please note the correction in the date for the vision night:

Vision and Information Night: This coming Thursday 30 April. Starts at 7 pm sharp and will finish no later than 8.30 pm. Everyone involved in Leaders and Departments are expected to be present, although it is important that everyone who attends New Life comes along. So please plan to attend.

Thanks JC!

Our Leadership spent 6 hours today alone (added to about 8 other hours) into the content for this event. Please come along expecting to be informed, challenged and encouraged.

Weekly Contact 27 April 2009

Back on track again. Yesterday was another memorable day. Thanks for being a part of it.

Sunday Morning: I spoke on "Renewing the Vision". I brought this message to lay a foundation for the Vision & Information Night this coming Thursday night. We saw that in the Days of Ezekiel there were many false and unfulfilled visions. It is my prayer that we will not be guilty of pursuing a false vision and that the vision of New Life City Church would not end up the basket of unfulfilled visions.

I made the point that it is not enough for us as a Leadership to simply present you with a Vision Statement and then expect you to just get on with it, but that we need to present you with tools and information, and equip you with the Word of God so that instead of being discouraged and frustrated you become promoters and carriers of the vision. But we need you to work with us as we as a Leadership commit ourselves more fully to "This Church"; to the Vision of "This Church" and to the people of "This Church".

Enough People! As I said yesterday morning we are not looking for enough to run departments; we are looking for enough people who will champion the vision; who will promote the vision; who will carry the vision; who will defend it; pray for it, and give to it. My appeal was for enough people to help make the vision become a reality; enough people to step up and into the gap. I wonder if you will step up and become one of the enough people?

Sunday night: I spoke on "There's more to be done in this city". This followed on from the morning message. I showed that although Joshua had taken a significant part of Canaan, when he had gotten old there was still much land to be taken; although he had conquered 31 kings in Canaan there were still 131 kings to be conquered. God said to Joshua, "You are very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over" (13:1).

God has not called us to go backward or to stop and settle, but to keep moving forward; to keep advancing and to take hold of the land both physically and spiritually. While we acknowledge our past failures, we also rejoice in our successes, but we still know there is more to be done in this city. My appeal was and is that we renew the vision by renewing our commitment to it and in so doing we achieve more as we move forward together.

Pastor John: Yesterday I announced with a great deal of personal sadness that Pastor John is moving on from New Life. He has accepted an invitation to Pastor the Elim Church in Maghera. John's last day with us will be Sunday 10 May. We will give more details later. In the meantime, please pray for John and Ruth as they finish their time with us at New Life and as they prepare for their next ministry assignment.

Vision and Information Night: Thursday 30 May. Starts at 7 pm sharp and will finish no later than 8.30 pm. Everyone involved in Leaders and Departments are expected to be present, although it is important that everyone who attends New Life comes along. So please plan to attend.

Next Sunday: Mike De Lorenzo (Christian Artist) will be sharing in the morning service and Pastor Dennis Moore will be speaking on Sunday night. Both from the USA.

Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.

Fantasy League

On the run-in to the end of the New Life Fantasy Football League, I have to say it is lonely at the top! Especially when no one else is in the 18 hundreds!

It must also be a little lonely for Kippers who is over 100 points behind the leader, but is the only one in the 17 hundreds!

Then we have the leading pack of five who are all in the 16 hundreds including our worship leader Craig McCurley, followed ever so closely and soon to pass him is Colin Sturgeon, then you have Willie McCalmont who is coming in with a late surge (but too little too late), and close on his heels we have Les Clarke and Johnny McKee who are letting the family down!

With five weeks left, anything can still happen. Let's see how many can make it over the 2,000 mark. If I don't and you do, I'll be the first to top my hat to you.

Thanks for your email or text message to welcome me back home!!!

We had a great time in the US; sometimes crazy, but great nonetheless. However, it is good to be home. All the reports about the services at New Life (while we were away) are nothing but positive. Thanks to everyone who did anything to make it so; even it was only attending and giving support by your presence. In fact the reports were so good it makes me wonder why I'm even needed (No answers on a postcard please!).

A special thanks to our guests and friends from Colorado. Pastor Kelly's teaching was obviously very much appreciated and was such a blessing to many. Thanks to everyone who helped in whatever way to make their visit a memorable one.

We are looking forward to being back at church on Sunday. DON'T MISS IT! I MEAN IT - DON'T MISS IT! For two reasons (1) I am tying Sunday into the Vision and Information Night next Thursday. The Sunday morning message is entitled "Renewing the Vision"; the Sunday night message is "There's More to be Done in this City" (let's see if the Worship Team is in the spirit that night!). (2) ?

Howdy pardners!

Well greetings all the way from the USA. I heard y'al had a great time at church yesterday. I heard church was packed; the meetings were great, and that everyone who took part contributed really well. A spy in the camp wrote to me and said, "You would have been so thrilled at today's services. Fantastic crowd, fantastic worship, fantastic preaching and best of all, we were all home tucked up in bed for 8.00pm...LOL..." However, I have my doubts about the last part! Kathleen and I got watching some of the Sunday morning service live on the internet, and what we saw was good. Well done, and a huge thanks to everyone who took part and to everyone for getting out and helping to make the day such a special one.

Don't forget this coming Sunday Mike Clinton will be at the church. His pastor, Kelly Williams will be speaking at both services. You are in for another amazing day. You can also help to make the day special by getting along and by participating in the praise and worship and anything else that God might want to do.

Kathleen and I have had a great time thus far. Plenty of time to relax and visit some places of interest. We went to Graceland, the home and burial place of Elvis Presley. Not that we were ever Elvis fans! But it was worth visiting. However, I personally found the whole experience somewhat depressing. To see his home filled with all of the memorabilia (and there was absolutely loads of it!), gold records and albums; suits he wore on stage etc etc etc. It was all just stuff, left by a man who seemingly had so much, yet had so little, and who died and left it all behind at the age of 42.

However, getting back to better things! The church we were at yesterday morning was amazing. It reminded us so much of home! In fact, although he did not speak for us, the Pastor John Wilbanks visited New Life a few years ago with our good friend and preacher Andrew Willis in 2005. It was at that time John was starting up the church. As he introduced me he announced that he was so inspired by New Life that he adopted many of our ideas! Believe me, it had the look and feel of New Life! This was such an honour. The best part though is that, after I had finished preaching, 10 people said the prayer of salvation and committed their lives to Christ. Among them were 3 men, 2 women and 5 young people. This surely has made the visit worth while, but praise God there is more to come. Surely this is part of our stated vision, "To be a God-influence to our city and beyond".

This is what the pastor wrote on my facebook: "Hey Jack, what a great day today. Your message was awesome and we where so blessed to have you and Kathy with us at Love and Truth Church, Corinth.  God Bless, Cannot wait for you to come back and preach for us."

After the morning service we drove from Corinth, Mississippi, to Hartselle, Alabama where we met with a couple of great friends, Mike & Faith Clardy and some of their family members who had been to Belfast. We also had a great time with some of their friends. We stayed overnight and left for Memphis the following morning after going out for a typical southern breakfast. On the way out to breakfast we were confronted with the sight of almost 30 trees that had been totally uprooted and blown over at the bottom of the street. This happened during the night as a tornado ripped through the area, but we slept through it!

Have a great Easter Week.

Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.
