Fathers' Days was a 'One Service Day' at New Life. Thanks to FIST team for a great service and to Craig Seawright for a great word. We had a really good turn out and no one could have failed to have gotten something from the service, be it the worship or the Word.
Craig Seawright's message, the content and the passion by which it was delivered, touched all our hearts. He brought a special Fathers' Day message based on Psalm 127:1 "Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labour in vain".
In this message he showed us that children are like arrows with destiny, carrying God's dreams with potential to change the world, but it is our responsibility (especially as fathers) to give direction to these arrows (our children).
The important thing is where you launch the arrow from. Our finish line is their starting point. In other words, where we finish is where they start off. The giants we don't fight, they will fight. The things we fail to finish, they will have to finish. But the devil is trying to shut down God's purposes by shutting down the fathers. He shuts down the fathers by shutting down their dreams. In Gen. 11 it was Terah's dream to go to Canaan, but he got distracted and went to Haran where he settled. Many years later his son Abraham went to Canaan. Abraham went where his father Terah should have gone.
It's hard to pursue the dream that God gives. Sometimes we want to bow out and give up on the dream, because we listen to the lies of the devil. But it's okay to dream, because God has a dream for each person; and has a dream for the church. Don't give up on your dream... Thanks Craig.
Abseil at the Europa: I think I am right in saying that Europa is seen as the goddess of Europe. She was one of the loves of Zeus and was depicted as riding on the back of a white bull. Today she is seen as riding the beast of the European Community, once called the European Common Market. Anyway, today, those who abseiled down from the roof of the Europa Hotel symbolically conquered the goddess of Europe! Well done! And well done for doing what you did and for raising finances for the building fund. Would you please make sure you get your sponsor money to Jonathan ASAP so we know what was brought in. Thanks to those who did the abseil and to those who sponsored.
What's on this week? Tuesday night Connect Group at our home at 7.30 pm; Prayer Meeting at the new building on Thursday night at 7.45 pm (we're back to the normal 8! unless that was a 'one of'!); Friday night Connect Group in west Belfast (Springfield Road).
Next Sunday: 11 am Pastor Piotr (Peter) Spasowski from Poland will be speaking. Your support would be truly welcome, especially at a time when racism is raising its ugly head in Belfast.
Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.
Pastor Jack
