Cross Vigil Day 10

DAY 10: Saturday 19 September

Short report today. Seemed to be much more hand waving and horns blowing. Many of the same people passing by each day. Some again stopping to ask questions about the guy standing with the cross.

Several people turned up to give moral support. Anna brought her dog that scared the life out of Adder! Eileen drove in from another part of Belfast and sat for a while to encourage and to be encouraged. Others from New Life stopped by, including Christine Buel who just arrived today from Williamsburg VA. X-New Lifer Ted Long stopped off for a while. Tourists from Quebec, Canada stopped for a chat and to get directions. We explained what was going on. They said they will be watching out for the Human Peace Wall when they are back in Canada. Eileen drove them to the main section of the wall.

A man stopped and has offered to bring a skip (a dumpster) on Monday to clear the site, where I am standing, of rubbish and to do so free of charge (although the site does not belong to us; not yet that is!). Talking about a skip, another guy turned up wearing a Republic of Ireland football top (that's soccer).

A student from the USA, who is attending the University of Ulster on an MA journalism programme, came along for a good chat. She is spending the year reporting on the post-conflict society through a Fulbright scholarship. We have a mutual friend in Chicago who suggested we should meet. Meeting at the cross beats meeting in the office!
