Cross Vigil Day 9

DAY 9: Friday 18 September

OK, it's starting to get cold now! So who's not praying? Today was much quieter in terms of visitors, although noisier in terms of car horns. Perhaps my updates are making people think we have enough visitors!

However, not only was it worth lifting the cross again, but it was worth being there as an encouragement to those who did manage to get along, besides being an encouragement to those who look forward to the daily updates. I am especially humbled by the fact that Vietnamese Christians are being blessed and challenged by this. In an email today I was told that the Cross Vigil "has certainly planted some seed thoughts for them (that is the Vietnamese Christians). The email went on, "their lives get it a lot worse, truly they are the 'sas' of His servants, they know what it really is "to stand up and be counted"". How humbling is that!

Well, I got to give directions to a delivery van looking for New Life City Church! The driver freaked out when I told him I was the Pastor! I also got to give directions to the "Peace Line" to tourists from Spain. I then signed the back of a photograph for Sam Spence, the man I mentioned on Wednesday who had his legs amputated. He sat in his car for a while as we talked about "the good ole days". He told me he will be attending New Life when we move into the new building.

But it wasn't all about giving out driving directions and signing photos! One woman who passed through the gates twice from the Falls looking for a door store stopped on her way back through the gates the second time and said, "Ok, now that I've bought my door I can ask you what John 3:16 means!" I said, "Are you serious? Do you not know what it means?" She said, "Well I have heard of it, but I do not know what it means!" So I had the opportunity again to explain this incredible verse. She explained she is originally from the Falls, but left because of all the trouble and has been living in a village in Co. Kerry (southern Ireland) where there is only one shop and three pubs!

In the last hour several people turned up from New Life to cheer us on. Thanks to them and to Anna who was there at the start, and to Kevin for the Muffins and Johnny for the Coke!
