Weekly Contact 13 September 2009

Hi guys and gals. I have to say I was looking forward to getting to church for a rest today! One week down, six more to go go; although week one was a short week!

Sunday morning: I have to say I found it so easy to get into worship in the morning service, not because of how I was feeling, but because there seemed to be an atmosphere of worship that radiated from the platform and permeated throughout the church. I loved it. I then brought the 4th message in the series "Accepting God's Agenda" based on the book of Hosea. This mornings message was from Hosea 3 which has only five verses, but is an amazing chapter as it covers Israel's past, present and future.

We looked at the parallel between Hosea and Gomer, and God and Israel. We looked at Gomer's and Israel's past sin and redemption; their present situation (Israel without a king; priest and sacrifice etc); and their future return, not only to their land, but to the Lord.

Sunday night: Jonathan spoke on "The Commitment to Grow" based on Eph. 4:14-16. He explained that growth does not necessarily come naturally, but is dependent on appetite, lifestyle and choice.

Three things we need to know about growth are: 1. We were created to grow - but it needs to be nurtured and encouraged; 2. Growth is a process to maturity - but it does not happen overnight and is not without pain; 3. Growth is a choice.

How do you grow? 1. Get planted in the right place - beside the river (Psm.1) and in the house of the Lord (Psm.92); 2. Get into the right environment and surround yourself with the right people; 3. Grow through learning - stay teachable, read and study the Bible, buy books and read etc.

Special prayer needs: we prayed for Dickson's father back in Zambia who is ill with cancer; please keep him in your prayers. We also prayed for the partner and the child of a man who took his life and was found today.

FIST: Don't forget men; this is YOUR event and begins again on Thursday night at 7 pm for stew and curry, and 7.45 for the event.

Moving: feel free to call round to City LIFE Centre to see the development taking place (don't get in the way; just nosey).

Thanks again for all your help and involvement at New Life City Church.

Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.

Pastor Jack
