Weekly Contact 4 January 2010

This is the first Weekly Contact for 2010 (that's two thousand and ten!). I want to wish you all a Happy New Year.

Thanks again to everyone for getting out to church for our first service of the year. There was an excellent turn out, although we did miss a few regulars like Craig McCurley who was ill; Anna who is still in Canada, and Colin and Carole who are sunning themselves in Madeira. We look forward to them all being back with us this coming Sunday. If you were not with us, and New Life is your church, please examine why you were not with us. If you are ill or you're going through some stuff and you need support, please let me know.

Sunday Morning Message: "Getting into the Zone". After a wonderful time of worship we were ready to hear and receive the Word of God. I began by making the points that the reason why too many Christians are out of touch with the plan and the purposes of God is because they fail to get into the zone - that is they fail to align themselves or properly position themselves in relation to God's plan and purposes; the reason why too many Christians miss out on so much of what God has planned for them personally is because they fail to get into the zone; the reason why too many Christians struggle from one week to the next is because they fail to get into the zone.

The whole point of the message was to encourage people to properly position and align themselves to God's plan and purpose for their personal lives and for the life of the church with the understanding that God has said, "I know the plans I have for you; plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans to give you hope and a future" (Jer 29:11). We saw that the real evidence of being in the zone is that we are fishers of men and worshippers of God. We finished the service with many of those present coming forward to receive communion at the front; staying there and getting into the zone of worship.

Prayer Time: Thursday night at 7.45. This will be the first Thursday night prayer meeting of 2010. So again I invite you to join with us to pray. We will spend a few moments studying a portion of God's Word; perhaps chat for a little while and then pray.

Next Sunday 11.30 am back again for another great time of worship and teaching. Let's also believe God for salvation at these Sunday morning services. Why not think of someone to invite. Pray for the opportunity to invite them along; look for it and take it when it comes.

GLOW. Although last Sunday was the first Sunday in the month GLOW decided to put off its meeting until this coming Sunday evening. So once again ladies, please take this opportunity to get along and connect with others. This is also another opportunity to invite your friends.

Couple's Weekend. 12 and 13 March. If you want more information on this and if you would want to go along please contact Gareth Murphy ASAP at Spudmurphy123@btinternet.com

Prayer Needs. Several people within the church and relatives continue to need our prayers. One special need is for James Scott's family. James' grandfather (his father's father) passed away during night. James' father was actually making his way back to Scotland when he received the news that his father had passed away. Our prayers are with them at this time of loss and sadness.

And let's remember for 2010: Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.
