Ulster Museum & Evolution

I am sending this to several hundred pastors and Christians on my email list (I'm not suggesting that pastors are not Christians!).

From Jack McKee, Pastor of New Life City Church, Belfast.

I don't know about you, but when I hear evolution being presented as factual and the whole idea of creation and intelligent design being scoffed at, it does something to my inside. Nelson McCausland made a resonable "request", but the reaction is somewhat hysterical as if something more than a raw nerve was upset! I will be writing to the Ulster Museum making the same reasonable request and will be asking our people at New Life City Church to do the same. What about it then? Can we all walk around these walls together?

I wrote the following to the Nelson McCausland today:

Dear Minister,

I applaud the fact that you had written to the Ulster Museum "requesting" consideration be given to alternative views concerning the origins of the universe and the origin of life. I am amazed at the sensitivity that causes some to react by using words like "meddling", "interference" and "driving a horse and coach through...".

I was disappointed by the response from Sinn Fein. It seems SF is happy to accept majority rule when it comes to suppositions regarding the origins of the universe, while at the same time is happy to shut out the opinions of a significant cross section of the population, which, numerically and representatively, would be much greater than the percentage of the population that supports their political position.

I was also disappointed by the position expressed by a Church of Ireland minister who seems to support the "theory" of evolution, as opposed to creationism. It seems to me that if the Church of Ireland minister was to be transferred back in time to the first day of creation he would conclude that Adam's age was much older than a day, and that the trees etc were many years old, when in fact it would only be day 1!

Let's have some consistency from Sinn Fein politicians and let's have some Biblical integrity from Church of Ireland ministers.

I am thinking of encouraging people across Northern Ireland, who believe in creation and intelligent design, to likewise write to the Ulster Museum requesting consideration be given to alternative views concerning the origins of the universe and the origin of life. I will certainly be doing this.

Best regards.

Jack McKee (Pastor)
