Baptism Service

At present there are 10 people getting baptised on Sunday, although others have said they wanted to be baptised. Some have expressed the concern that they might not be ready. Well, the fact is, if you had lived in Bible days you would have got baptised the very day you became a Christian. Every person, except the thief on the cross, who became committed followers of Christ were almost immediately baptised as a public demonstration of the faith in Christ.

No one waited until they thought they were ready! What does that mean? When are we ready? The fact is we are ready the moment we follow Christ. Baptism is not for perfect Christians, it's for imperfect Christians. Believe me, you will feel so much better by taking this step of obedience. After all Jesus did say, "Repent and be baptised everyone of you".

Those so far who are getting baptised are:

James Scott
William Rea
Thomas Cartmill
Roy Crawford
Sonia McClements
Maxine Cole
Eileen Lemon
Lisa Nesbitt
Paula Nesbitt
Danielle Reynolds

If your name is not listed and you are a committed Christian and have not been baptised, I would ask you to think about this and would encourage you to make the decision to get baptised in accordance with God's Word. You will feel GREAT!

I will send some practical instructions soon.

God bless.

Jack

Fw: Jarrod Cooper

7.30 pm An Evening of Teaching & Worship at Carryduff Elim

Sunday 3 October

11.30 am Teaching and Worship at New Life City Church

All events are free, but a special ministry offering will be taken up at each.

Jarrod Cooper is a great communicator; he's an inspirer who uses speech, song, worship and prophetic ministry. He works in a challenging and humorous way to encourage the Church to reach higher in God. His ministry has taken him throughout the UK, Europe, Africa and America since 1990, speaking at churches, conferences, on television and radio. He is on UCB Channel 586 every Sunday morning.

Jarrod has been involved in producing over twenty albums, including six solo albums, and the song he is probably most known for writing and singing, King of kings, Majesty, is considered to be among the most popular contemporary worship songs. You can watch this on DVD by clicking on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfOOksq7kFI

It would be so helpful if we had an idea of how many we should expect at these events, especially Saturday morning. If you plan to attend and bring friends with you, please let me know by responding ASAP to this email to pastorjack@btinternet.com.

It would also help if you could pass this on to those on your email list. Help us make this a great weekend.

Many thanks.

Need a Bed!

Does anyone have a single bed you no longer need, or even a mattress? This is for someone we are presently working with (one of those "All things to all men" situations, although in this case it's a woman).

If you can help, please let me know ASAP.

Thanks.

Weekly Contact 29 August 2010

Great day at church: It was great to see many new people in church, either for the first time or returning for the second or the third time etc. We trust and pray that those who visit with us, or have recently joined us, will feel as if they have received a 1,000 welcomes and handshakes before they get to their seats, and that even then they will continue to be made to feel welcome amongst us. Go ahead and try it! Why not just reach out and welcome someone to church. Not only will they feel good, but so too will you.

Once again the place was buzzing with great music and worship, and as we turned to the Word of God hearts were open and ready to receive, resulting in several people coming forward for prayer and one Polish girl coming forward to receive prayer and to give her life to Christ. Praise God for his presence and his power; for his willingness to bless us and to save. To be part of this is so amazing.

"Better understanding God's Word" was the message I brought. We read Matt.4:1-11 where three times Jesus declared "It is written". The first thing I did was to encourage people to meet with the Author of the book; for although there are 66 books in the Bible there is only one author who is God. But why do we need a better understanding of God's Word? Because...

1) God's Word is FOOD. It is food for our soul and our spirit. As much as you need food for your body, whether Chinese, Polish, Persian, or a good ole fish supper, our soul and our spirit also need to be fed. Solomon said, "Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread" (Prov. 30:8). I expalined that the body is the physical side of us; the soul is the life or the person inside the body (it's our personality and character etc); the spirit is the spiritual side of us that connects us with God. Sadly, most people think more about what they are going to feed the body than what they will feed the soul and the spirit. Many are more interested in how they dress than in how they behave. Someone can have their body well fed and well dressed, but their soul stinks! But Jesus taught us to pray "Give us this day our daily bread" which is a reference to the Word of God.

2) God's Word is LAMP. David said it is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). But why do we need a lamp? Why do we need light? Because we are surrounded by darkness. The earth we live on is surrounded by darkness; the world we live in is surrounded by darkness; the earth needs the light of the sun by day and of the moon by night; we need lights in our streets and lights in our homes, but beyond the natural darkness, we live in a world that is impacted by a spiritual darkness. Yet even though the eyes of many have had their eyes open, sadly the darkness sometimes finds its way back into the church by wrong choices, wrong life styles and wrong attitudes. Wrong because they are contrary to God's Word. 1 John 2:11 "Whoever hates his brother is in darkness...".

3) God's Word is...? I never got this far! But perhaps next time!

Well, once again the response was amazing! Not least because people were prayed for and because someone was saved.

Prayer Times: Monday 11.45 am; Thursday 7.45 pm; Saturday 10.30 am.

NEXT SUNDAY: Two Special Events as follows:

Baptism Service at 11.30 am. I have several names, but in case I have forgotten someone, could you please email me again if you are getting baptised? Thanks. I will send out more details soon.

GLOW at 7 pm in the Main Hall of the church. This is the first of our women's outreach as we move into the new season. Guest speaker is Kim Kelly. Kim is a local girl who does great work in reaching out to the community through an outreach in Argyle Business Centre. Please plan to get along to this event, and, come on ahead, invite a friend. You will not be disappointed.

Thanks again to everyone who works hard for the development and advancement of New Life City Church.

Have a great week. Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.

GATES

We have been delighted to see several people join us from the Falls community during the past few months, but unfortunately the gates in Northumberland Street have been closed early at nights and also on Sunday mornings during the past few weeks. We have tried in vain to get these opened for Sunday mornings. However, we have been told that things should be back to normal next week. We will keep making the case.

However, before the end of November approx £100,000 is being spent on the ground alongside our building. Part of this will give us our entrance from the Falls Road thus making things easier. So please be patient while this work is being done. And hey, keep coming and keep bringing your friends.

Prison Visit

Friday mornings are becoming my mornings for prison visits. Today I visited Joe Lockhart who asked me to pass on his regards to everyone in New Life. So especially for those who know him, Joe says "Hi". He is doing quite well; serving God and looking forward to moving to the Crumlin Road soon and to having more freedom before his release.

Pray for Joe and Oso and another guy called Mark.

James & Julie

James and Julie: It is with sadness I write to let you all know that James and Julie have lost the child that was due in February. They have known about this since Monday, but have been dealing with it before going public. I have been in touch with them since Monday giving as much encouragement as is possible in the circumstances. They have been staying at Julie's mum and dad's in Drumbo. Kathleen and I had dinner with them last night. I think James did most of the cooking! It rocked! We rejoice with those who rejoice and we weep with those who weep. Please keep James and Julie and the kids in prayer.

Nicola Anderson has asked for prayer for her dad who has MS and for whom the medicine is not working, which means he could be of his feet and in a lot of pain for months.

We had a good prayer meeting tonight. We prayed for various people and needs and also for the church, besides giving thanks to God for some amazing breakthroughs. I spoke on "Changing the world" by changing "Our World" not by trying to change others within "Our World" but by changing ourselves. Of course others need to change, but so do you! "Change MY heart Oh Lord".

Don't forget our late night prayer time on Friday night 10 pm - 12 midnight.

Jack

PRAYER

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the last Friday of the month, which means Late Night Prayer at New Life from 10 pm - 12 midnight.

Mark and Rachel

A couple of weeks back I sent an email asking for your prayers for Mark and Rachel. I want to thank you for honouring and respecting the request for space, especially for Rachel. Please continue to honour this request. This is the best thing you can do for Rachel at this time besides pray. It's been great to see Mark at church on Sundays, but please do not load him with questions or comments, no matter how well intentioned they are. He and Rachel know how much they are loved and thought of at New Life. The following is a brief message from Mark:

"I would like to thank everyone who has been praying for me and Rachel at this time. We are very grateful for the support we have received and the respect given to us (via Jack's previous email). I would like u to know that ur prayers are making a difference and are 100% being felt. I would ask for your continued support via prayer and any contact to be directed towards me. We love u all very much and look forward to one day giving God the praise for answering the prayers of his people."

Mark is back to work today, after being off for 6 weeks (he's a school teacher!). He says things like, "I'm praying, but I'm still rowing". Let's pray with him, and let's help him row. Rachel is being well cared for. Please do not read into this or assume wrong things. This is nothing to do with their marriage. Someday soon this will be over and they will thank the church themselves.

Let's show as a church that we do care, and let's show this by praying for one for another and through actions that are appropriate.

Many thanks.

By The Way!

By the way: I will NOT need any more help on Saturdays to put the chairs out as the Athletics Group that has been using the hall are now finished with us. This is the group that young Ethan Hance belongs to. They had been using the hall for 3 weeks. We were glad to be of help and we wish them well. Thanks to the Group for looking after the place quite well and for putting the chairs back when they did, and thanks to everyone who stepped up to help put the chairs out or simply tidy them up for Sundays. Thanks also to the workers at Stadium Projects for stacking the chairs on Mondays etc.

Can you use a needle and thread? There are a few chairs where the stitching has come loose at the seems. If you're any good at using a needle and thread and you can help repair these, please let me know.

Weekly Contact 22 August 2010

Awesome service today. Great turn out. Great worship. Great Word. Great response. What more can I say? Well here goes anyway!

It was great to see the McFerran and Maxwell family turn out in force for the Dedication of Baby Amy Ellen Maxwell, daughter of Gavin and Donna Maxwell. After a warm welcome to everyone and a prayer for some special requests we got right into a good solid time of worship.

The message I brought was "Clueless in Jerusalem". I made the point that I would rather be Sleepless in Seattle than Clueless in Jerusalem, because if you're sleepless, no matter where you are, you are at least awake and aware of what's going on around, whereas if you're clueless you really don't know what's going on!

The message was based on Matt.11.18-19 where the Pharisees were complaining about John the Baptist because he did not eat and drink, but they also complained about Jesus because he did eat and drink! The fact is, when you reject truth you must replace it with a lie. When humanity rejected the truth about creation they had to come with an alternative, and the only alternative to truth is non-truth. So when the Pharisees rejected the truth about Jesus they replaced that truth with a lie, and because the Pharisees rejected the truth about Jesus they therefore rejected him. These men should have known better, but they were the builders who rejected the chief cornerstone.

You would have thought that had Jesus been into Religion he would have embraced, and been embraced by, the Pharisees, but no! The fact is, religion and Jesus don't mix. Jesus was not a religious person; he did not come to support an existing religion or to commence a new religion; although he was a committed practicing Jew, he never suggested we should all become Jews; and neither did he suggest that Christianity should supersede Judaism as a new religion, but he came to establish a permanent relationship between us and God.

The question is not, and never will be: Were you Christened or Dedicated? Are you Protestant or Catholic? Are you Republican or Loyalist? Are you Straight or Gay? But the question is and will be, Is your name written in the Lambs Book of Life?  At the end of the message I made an appeal for salvation and three people responded by raising their hands. Gives thanks and praise God for these three people.

Dedication of Amy Ellen Maxwell. Immediately after the message Gavin and Donna joined with me at the front as we prayed for baby Amy and dedicated her to the Lord. We continue to wish them well and pray God's ongoing blessing upon baby Amy, parents and family circle.

Prayer: Please continue to pray for Gareth's 15 week old nephew, Jude Thompson, who will have major heart surgery within the next 3 - 4 weeks - we pray for a miracle; pray for Eileen Lemon's friend who is having a brain scan that all will be well; pray for Harry who is going through detox from alcohol; and pray for Michelle Manwaring who is understandably grieving the loss of her mother.

Prayer Times this coming week as follows: Monday 11.45 am; Thursday 7.45 pm; Friday Late Night Special 10 pm - 12 midnight; Saturday 10.30 am.

Thanks to those who helped put chairs out yesterday, which was the first time I never contacted anyone as the chairs have always been put out each Saturday, but yesterday when I got to the building at 2.45 pm the chairs were not out! So I sent an SOS text. Thanks to Roy and Adder for making it. I know others would have been there if you'd been notified earlier, but us three managed alright anyway!

However, this reminds me to say thanks again to everyone who works hard for the development and advancement of New Life City Church.

Have a great week. Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.

Subject: HELP Needed

Hi everyone,

Colin Houston's engine blew last week, which means he has no taxi and is out of work. He has an offer of an engine at the right price, but he needs to pick it up in Magherafelt. He has a trailer, but needs a car with a tow bar.

If you have a car with a tow bar and can help, please contact Colin at colinriverword@yahoo.co.uk or 07789756880.

If Colin can borrow a car he would make sure it is insured for him to drive or if someone was able to take the time to drive him. Either way would work.

Contact Colin ASAP if you can help.

Thanks.

EATING FRUIT - THIS IS A MUST READ

I have to say this rates at the top of emails sent to me from Tommy Latimer.

Thank God for the great relationships we have at New Life City Church; City
LIFE Centre; and Stadium Projects. Let's keep encouraging each other. Worth
sending on. This is originally from a Doctor.

EATING FRUIT...

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just
popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to
know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! * FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN
EMPTY STOMACH.

If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your
system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other
life activities.

FRUIT IS A MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and
then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through
the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The
minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and
digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have
heard people complaining - every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat
durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the
toilet, etc - actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an
empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces
gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all
these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic,
because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert
Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct
way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health,
energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from
the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked
fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste.
Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should
drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let
it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit
fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout
the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant
you look!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium,
vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low
vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the
activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer,
heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total
antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing,
blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds
away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens
the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also
packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune
system. They are also a key source of lycopene - the cancer fighting
oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for
their high vitamin C content.. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps
prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your
eyes.

Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can u believe this?? For those
who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice
to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will
solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the
digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and
be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the
intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is
best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE': (THIS IS NOT A
JOKE!) Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be
the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may
never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea
and intense sweating are also common symptoms. Sixty percent of people who
have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw
can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we
know the better chance we could survive.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this mail sends it to 10 people,
you can be sure that we'll save at least one life.

Read this....It could save your life!!

From MARK McFERRAN

TO ALL MEN (Aged 16+)

I (Mark McFerran) have provisionally booked Go-Karting at the Raceview Karting Tracks in Ballymena (see http://www.raceviewindoorkarting.co.uk/ ) for next Saturday (21st Aug) night around 6:30 - 7pm. (if we need to start a little later it can be arranged)

It is for a Grand-Prix style race type

The Grand Prix consists of:

  • Practice laps for every driver
  • 4 Heats per driver, each heat starting in a different grid postion
  • Quarter-Final Races to determine the grid for the Semi -Finals
  • Semi-Final Races to determine the grid for the Grand Final
  • Top 6 drivers compete in the Grand Final race

So basically you get to compete at every level; practice laps, heats, quarter finals and semi finals. The only one you need to qualify for is the actual FINAL.

The cost is £35 per driver and I can guarantee a great night as I've been to this place on quite a few occasions!! The winner gets a Trophy presented to them and the 2nd and 3rd places get certificates!

This is an ideal opportunity to get together with the rest of the guys from church and possibly other friends and family members (feel free to invite them along). It will be a great chance for fellowship and is suitable for the ultra competitive, the can't be bothered type AND the 'just in it for a laugh' type!

Need a min of 10 men to do the Grand Prix, and will be calling the place tomo to confirm the booking or to cancel.

If you are interested or you want to bring a friend or family member along I will need a £10 deposit per person by tomorrow. I can come and get your deposits tomorrow. Just send me a text or give me a call tonight on 07926829059.

Thanks,

Mark McFerran

Weekly Contact 15 August 2010

After the morning service someone approached me and said they had been wondering what Kathleen had been feeding me as they felt I have be on fire this past few weeks. Someone else sent an email stating, "wonderful service today - it made me think". Then a girl who has been attending New Life this past few weeks said, "the worship in this church is amazing; I have never seen the pastor at xxxxxx Church ever lift his hands in worship". Well, we very much appreciate all the positive comments, but without being smug or pompous, we deeply appreciate what God, and who God, has blessed us with. The worship was pumping and once again helped to create an atmosphere for the message to be delivered and received.

The message I brought was "Earnestly Seeking God", based on Heb.11:6, "God rewards those who earnestly seek him".

1. Earnestly Seeking God is about genuinely seeking the face of God; not necessarily the hand of God. Seeking God is not about trying to push the right buttons where we think we can impress God, or force God to sit up and listen and give us what we think we can demand of him, but seeking God is about drawing close to him with the desire to know him. Like Paul said, "That I might know him".

2. Earnestly Seeking God will release benefits, because God rewards those who earnestly seek him. David said in Psalm 19 that in seeking God and in obeying his Word there is great reward. Like physical exercise is good for the body, but only if you do it. Eating the right kind of food will yield physical and health benefits. Hanging with the right kind of people will produce benefits, so that you need to be careful who you hang with and who you listen to.

3. Earnestly Seeking God is not about getting your loyalty card punched every time you attend church or every time you step into the Secret Place in the hope of getting a prize or a treat, but it's about seeking God for no other reason than to spend time with him. There are times when it is important to simply spend time with the person you love, not for what you can get, but just to spend quality time with them.

4. Earnestly Seeking God does not mean you don't ask God for anything. In fact Jesus said we should. He said, "Ask.., Seek.. and Knock". But God will not reward us simply because we ask, but because we earnestly seek him. God rewards faithfulness.

5. Earnestly Seeking God might result in you becoming a millionaire or the CEO of a large company, like Moses and Joseph, but spare a thought for Stephen whose reward was to be stoned to death; or Peter; Paul and the other disciples who all, except John, died violent deaths. Jesus never said, "Great will your reward be on earth", but he did say, "Great will your reward be in Heaven".

If you want a CD Copy of any message email Paul McGurk at franciswhite57@yahoo.co.uk Thanks Paul for all your help. You're doing a great job.

Barbeque & Match: Great afternoon as quite a number came to the house for a barbeque and then to watch the match afterwards. Great barbeque, but a pity about the outcome of the match. Well done Reina!

Meeting with Team Leaders: This took place on Sunday night. We shared our heart and our plans relating to Twenty10Renew. This was a very positive meeting and has added to the sense of excitement regarding the ongoing development of New Life City Church. I made the point that we have now arrived at the point where we are "forgetting those things that are behind" and that we are "pressing forward". I expressed deep appreciation for all who have contributed to get us to where we are today, whether with us or no longer with us, but we're no longer looking back; we are looking forward and moving forward.

We now look forward to meeting with ALL team leaders and team members on Monday night at 7.30 pm.

Thanks again to everyone who works hard for the development and advancement of New Life City Church.

Have a great week. Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.

Transport & Bar B Q

Some said they did not receive the following, so I am sending it again:

Many thanks for the great response and for the many offers of help. If everyone went to pick them up there would be a double decker bus; a white van; a truck; a fire engine; a mini bus; a taxi; a motor bike; and several cars!

I put the names into a hat and the one that came out was Les Clarke! I don't know if that's the short straw or the long straw, but Les will pick them up. Thanks again to everyone who offered. You're all off the hook now, except Les!

THIS SUNDAY: Liverpool play their first match of the new season against Arsenal. Our home is open for a Bar B Que after the Sunday morning service followed by the match on TV. Feel free to come along, but bring your own food and cook it on our new Bar B Que!

Help Needed

Hi everyone,

Thanks for those who turned up last Saturday to help put chairs out. I also appreciated that Leslie Hance and those with her had actually put the chairs out before we arrived, which meant just having to make some adjustments etc. However, we need to do the same today and next Saturday.

So if you can spare 30 minutes, please meet me at the church at 3 pm today. It's always good to get to church for any reason!

Team Meeting

The re-launch Vision Day from here on will be referred to as Twenty10Renew

Twenty10Renew: will take place on Sunday 12 September. We are planning two amazing services as follows:

11.30 am - 1.30 pm     Renewing the Vision

Then said Samuel to the people, "Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there". 1 Samuel 11:14 (KJV)

7.00 pm - 8.30 pm      Celebrating Vision

"Where there is no vision, the people perish". Prov 29:18 (KJV) or
"Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint" (NIV)

As part of the process leading to Twenty10Renew we are inviting all Team Leaders and Team Members to join with us next Monday night at 7.30 pm (Mon. 16 August) in the Multi Purpose Lounge upstairs at City LIFE Centre. If you are a Team Leader or Team Member we would expect to see at this meeting and therefore ask that if this applies to you that you take note of this event and that you plan to attend. If you are unable to, please let me know by replying to this email.

Team Leaders, can I ask that you follow this up by contacting your team members and making sure they are aware of this.

This meeting is NOT to discuss the past, but is about presenting where are now and where we are going. We are looking backward; we are looking forward and we are moving forward. Paul said, "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things". Phil. 3:12-15.

I look forward to seeing you on Monday night at 7.30 pm.

Get your praise hat on and worship heart open for Sunday, 'cause we're gonna have a blast (Sunday at 11.30 am). I will be speaking on "Earnestly Seeking God".

Worth the Read

I received the following from a friend in the US:

I once heard a pastor state that he loved his job--except for the people. Ninety percent of pastors who graduate from seminary resign from the ministry within the first ten years because they get tired of the gossip, rebellion, disrespect, disloyalty, immaturity, and pettiness of their congregations. They might find it easier to be a garbage collector, a ditch digger, a mechanic, or a pilot who can sit in the cockpit of an airplane with the door shut and not be required to deal with people. These options might relieve the frustrations of a minister, but they certainly do not build the church.

Whether people are uneducated, self-taught, or scholars, they can cause insurrection and other problems in families, businesses, churches and ministries. The root of their immaturity is pride, which results in bad attitudes. Their stubborn, disrespectful, debating, undisciplined personalities create disloyalty; and finally, division rules. The family, business, church or ministry ultimately fails as Moses failed in the wilderness when his leaders caused
such a putrid atmosphere that God did not allow them to enter the promised land.

The key to a winning team in a church, ministry or office, is to have people, whether educated or not, who are willing to learn and will follow godly leadership. We must stop working with and imparting into the lives of people who are too stubborn to be taught and won't follow simple instructions
and policies. Such behavior only fuels frustration and disunity in a staff with a "mutiny on the bounty" waiting to happen. Yes, I do believe in education, and that is why I encourage all my staff to continue to take the courses offered at World Ministries International School of Theology. An educated staff is much better equipped to be effective in ministry if they possess "the winning attitude". If they do not, they can be more troublesome, as Moses discovered.

Jesus loved the boastful, argumentative, debating Peter who was always challenging Jesus with his big mouth because of his pride. However, Jesus could not trust or use him while he was a disciple. Peter became an apostle only after he fell on his face, repented, and finally obeyed the teachings of Jesus that he had heard taught over the years.

PRAYER

I just got a phone call from Ballyclare regarding a young lad (13) who was badly injured today while doing "dumper jumping"! Apparently young men gather and jump onto dumper trucks at the quary. They wait until the truck is passing and jump onto it from a hill above it. Young Scott jumped and grabbed hold of the side of a truck and then lost his grip. He fell under the wheel. Both legs are broken; his pelvis is broken; an arm is broken, besides other serious injuries. I spoke with one of his mates and his older brother Davy (17) on the phone. I told them I would get people in church to pray for Scott tonight. I then offered to pray for him on the phone. They put me on loud speaker so their other mates could hear the prayer. Davy then said to me, "Thanks mate; you're a good man. Thanks for doing that". None of these lads are Christians.

I don't know him, but I told them I would call and see Scott in the hospital in the next day or two.

Re Transport Help

Marty McGartland

Many of you know of Marty McGartland and my past relationship with him. We almost died together in a bomb attack and where whisked away at full speed together in a police car with flashing lights and sirens blaring! The following are messages between us on Facebook tonight:

Marty to Jack: Hope your well my friend. You take care, god bless. Your friend forever (and ever), Marty :-)

Jack to Marty: Great to hear we are friends forever and ever mate! Does this mean you're going heaven too?:-)))

Marty to Jack: If I make it to heaven b4 U I will put a good word in for you ha ha. I may have to use ur good name to get in :-)))
Only joking Jack. We will make it to heaven. Marty

Add Marty to your prayer list.

PRAYER

Lesley Hance's mother has been admitted to hospital following several mini strokes, which are a prelude to a major stroke. Lesley has asked for prayer for her mother. Please take a moment, even now, and pray for her healing and for her salvation as she is not yet saved. Why not drop Lesley an email just to let her know you have prayed and are praying for her mum. paul.hance@btinternet.com

Pray one for another that you may be healed.

PRAYER

Please treat this with the dignity it deserves and the Christian love it demands.

Mark Crothers has asked me to send this request. Some of you know that Rachel has not been well for a while. Jonathan and I are in contact with Mark and Rachel. It has been a difficult couple of months for them. They deeply appreciate the friendship they experience from friends at New Life, but Mark has asked that no one contact Rachel by phone or text at this time. I would suggest that the same applies to Mark, unless you are already in regular contact with him. Please don't use this as an opportunity to contact him. Please respect his request.

Mark does not want anyone to worry or to be suspicious about what is happening with Rachel. She simply needs time while she receives help from family and professionals.

This is one of the situations I was referring to when I sent the email yesterday asking people to pray. That's all you need to do, but is greatly valued.

Thanks.

TRANSPORT HELP

A young couple from the USA are coming to spend a few days in Belfast this coming Sunday until next Tuesday. Elisha and her husband Kris. Elisha was here before with her parents and team from Florida a few years ago.

They arrive on Stena Line from Scotland on Sunday at 7.45 am. I am checking to see if anyone can pick them up around 8 am and bring them to the flat at Carlow Street.

If anyone can do this, please email me so we can make arrangements.

Weekly Contact 8 Aug 2010

One person who has been attending New Life for several weeks wrote on Facebook today "Jack, enjoyed the service today, great worship team; you are truly blessed and the message was spot on". Someone else, who has been at New Life for many years, wrote, "Great word today Jonathan; very challenging". Did we cross every "t" and dot every "i"? No! But we united our hearts and our voices in worship and we opened our ears to hear and our hearts to receive the Word of God. Great to welcome several people back from holiday. We hope you had a fab and refreshing time away. We already miss others who have gone on holiday this weekend and pray they get the weather we all deserve!

Jonathan brought a great word on BROKENNESS. That if we truly want God to move among us and through us we need a moment of brokenness; like the treasure in earthen vessels or the fragrance in the alabaster box that need to be released, but are often only released through brokenness. Yet the way we think, the mindsets we establish, often prevent real brokenness.

As a man thinks, so is he: The fact is you are what you think, but you are not necessarily what you think you are! There is a way of thinking within the world, and within the community around us, but the way we think and behave in church should not reflect the mindset of the world, but should reflect Christ. Prince William must always remember that one day he will be King; the way he thinks and the way he behaves must reflect this. As Christians, we are destined to one day reign with Christ, and our lives should reflect this.

Shaping our thinking: There are two things that shape the way we think. 1) A major event (like war; an attack on your life or your home etc); 2) What you surround yourself with; the things you listen to and the things you see. How should we shape our minds as Christians? Rom. 12:1 "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind". Do not be influenced by negative comments and negative seeds sown into your mind by others, but let your mind be renewed by the Word of God. What's being sown into your mind and life? And, what are you sowing into the minds of others? Jonathan finished by calling on us as a church to rise up and be the church that God wants us to be; to put on the helmet of salvation and to gird up the loins of our minds, which means protect the way we think by reeling in the lose thoughts that hinder us and hinder others.

Prayer Prayer Prayer! If you knew the names and the needs of some within the church you would truly pray for them, but sometimes we cannot name or even detail the needs, but believe there are several situations that need serious prayer and people who need love poured into their lives. You might wonder how you can pour love into the lives of those who stand in need if you do not know who they are! Well, just do what you should be doing as a Christian and pour love into the lives of those around you and you will not miss pouring love into the lives of those who need it. Pray one for another and you will not miss praying for those who need it.

Pointing fingers and wagging tongues say we are not a praying church! Such accusations do not deserve email space, but let say this: There is probably no pastor that sends out prayer requests more than this pastor does, both for his own people and for others; there is probably no pastor that has taught a series of messages twice on the Secret Place to encourage people to pray as this pastor has done; I don't know of any church that has a prayer time every Monday, besides every Thursday night and the last Friday of each month! BESIDES THIS there is another prayer time starting on Saturday mornings for those who cannot make it during the week. AND BESIDES THIS! We are planning to open the Prayer Room at the church, which is called the "Boiler House", 24/7. We will also be launching a Prayer Ministry Team to pray for people within the church during ministry times. So as a church we encourage private prayer times; we encourage and arrange several corporate prayer gatherings on Mondays; Thursdays; Saturdays, and the last Friday of each month; we are planning 24/7 prayer opportunities and will be launching a Prayer Ministry Team, yet some say "New Life doesn't pray enough!!!" Hey, it's time for fingers to stop pointing and for tongues to stop wagging.

Can I therefore ask you to continue to pray for Michelle & Bill Manwaring and the family due to the loss of Michelle's mother. I will let you know the funeral details later. Pray also for Mesam whose appeal is being heard next Thursday. Pray he is not returned to Iran, but is permitted to remain in Northern Ireland. I will be at court to speak on his behalf.

Thanks again to everyone who works hard for the development and advancement of New Life City Church.

Have a great week. Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.

Michelle Manwaring

Hi everyone,

Just to let you all know that Michelle Manwaring's mother passed away today. She was almost lost to the family at the beginning of July, but we believe that God spared her and gave her some extra special weeks with her family. She had gone from intensive care to the main ward, which was a real answer to prayer. It was there I last saw her and prayed with her, but it is now so sad to receive this news.

Please pray for Michelle and Bill and the family.

Thanks.

Facebook Post

I know many of you are not on Facebook so I have copied my latest post for below:

TD Jakes said today, "Where you are now is not where God is calling you to". This made me wonder, "Are we ever where God wants us to be, or are we always getting there?" You know what? We're all still getting there! You have not yet arrived; you're still getting there. The church you attend has not yet arrived; it's still getting there, and believe me, New Life City Church is getting there!

Prayer & Help

Our prayer time rocked last night! I hope it rocked in heaven as much as it did on earth and that heaven will rock our world as a result. What's your plans for the weekend? Here are two of mine:

1. We have helped out an aerobics group (one that little Ethan Hance attends). They lost their accommodation and we have stepped in to help them for the next three weeks. This has meant stacking our chairs away in the main church. So one of my plans is to be at the church tomorrow at 4 pm to put the chairs back for Sunday. What about you? Will you be free and able to come along and help me put the chairs out? See you at 4 pm!

2. It's Friday, but Sunday's coming! I plan to be at New Life City Church on Sunday morning for the 11.30 am Service. What about you? Will you be free and able to come along and join with me and others as we worship God together and hear from God's Word? See you then, but don't forget the Tea & Coffee sold by Revolution Youth from 10.45 am.

Have GREAT weekend!

LIVERPOOL

Who would have thought the reds would be getting taken over by the Reds! It throws a whole new light on Revelation chapters 9 and 16! Maybe the reason the army of 200,000,000 coming over the Euphrates from the East to the West is NOT to take over the oil fields, but to take over Liverpool. For years I've been saying keep your eye on China. Well, I have to admit, I missed that one! Imagine the Chinese government owning Liverpool FC!

Ah well. It will throw a whole new mean to The Red Devils V The Red Commies!

Prayer re Suicide

Today I was speaking to someone who told me that one of his clients has lost his £20 Million fortune and has tried to take his own life as a result.

Today a 14 year old boy in Short Strand managed to take his own life. He never lost £20 Million, but he lost hope. James Scott has asked us to pray for this lad's family.

God help us to reach the high and the low; the rich and the poor; to give hope to the hopeless and help to the helpless.

Facebook Comment

I put this on my Facebook page tonight, but felt I should send it to those on the church mailing list:

Recent experiences have made me realise the importance of how we use our hands. We lift them in worship to God and with those same hands we can rebut or we can receive. I choose to receive. I choose to get a grip of my faith by getting a grip of my fellow men (and woman). I choose hands up worship and hands on evangelism. What's up with that?

A Day in the Life of Jack

Last Sunday I said, "Do not judge me by how I preach or by what I say on the platform, but judge me by my lifestyle of the platform". I went as far as to invite people to spend a day with me. Well, today would have been the day! Although it started at 2 am - 3.30 am when I did some praying and some work before crashing out for 4 hours.

1. Having left Kathleen off at the Playgroup before 8 am I returned home to do some emails and make some calls before having breakfast.

2. I got into the church for 10 am. Played pool with Boneyard. He beat me on the black ball. We are now all square.

3. I met with Jeffrey Donaldson MP. Showed him around the building. Jonathan and Tommy I chatted with him for over an hour.

4. Met with Billy Haddock regarding work taking place in the building to get the playgroup moved in soon.

5. Met with Monika regarding the development of COPE.

6. Printed out a reference for Misam whose appeal against being returned to Iran is being heard on Thursday.

7. Met with Robert regarding plumbing for playgroup toilets etc.

8. I felt led to phone Brendy and arrange to meet with him at a moment's notice. We met in the Cultra Lan (Irish for Culture Land) cafe on the Falls Road. As most of you know, Brendy is an ex-Provo, born again who totally loves Jesus. As we walked into Cultra Lan, Eddie Copeland, the commander of the IRA in Ardoyne and full dissident, was standing at the door. Brendy told me he had been talking to Eddie Copeland about meeting me there. As I walked through the door, and was within an inch of Copeland, Brendy decided to introduce us. Copeland was as uncomfortable looking as I felt. We looked into each others eyes with the same amount of awkwardness. I grunted out "How ya doin'" and literally made sure that my hand did not extend towards him. It was obvious that he was doing the same! I very quickly moved past him as I had nothing to say to him (nothing he would have wanted to hear!).

When I sat down Brendy sat next to me. We talked about that awkward moment. I explained my reason to Brendy for not shaking Copeland's hand, which is the fact that he was responsible for the Shankill bomb that killed women and children and that he is still actively involved in and is spearheading terrorism. Brendy told me that Copeland had asked him, "Was Jack ever in anything?" Brendy answered, "He was in the UDR for five years, but that's all in the past and he's willing to come here and be friends with me!" I said, "Brendy, are you trying to set me up?" He said, "Listen Jack, if anyone comes through that door to attack you, they'll have to get by me first". I laughed and said, "Yeah, and when they do that, I'm second!" I explained I had no problem shaking hands with anyone coming through those doors who are genuine about moving forward. Well, twenty minutes later Copeland left the door and a few minutes later Gerry Adams walked in!!! Can you see what's coming here?

Gerry and Brendy waved at each other and then Gerry Adams came over to our table. As they shook hands Brendy said, "Have you met Jack?". Gerry Adams looked at me and said, "Ah, from the Shankill!" Then guess what? He immediately put his hand out to me!!! As I shook his hand he said, "Fair play d'yee" (Irish for Fair play to you). I told him I was going to contact him to invite him to our building. He told me to drop him a note and that he would come round! All in one day! From Jeffrey Donaldson to Eddie Copeland to Gerry Adams. I sat and said, "God I see this, but I don't understand it". I felt God say back to me, "This is not the time to understand, but the time to trust". All this took place two days after two people committed their life to Christ at our church following the message I brought on Sunday morning; one a boy and one a man. I spoke with the man afterwards. He told me he had been brought up Catholic and is a member of Sinn Fein and is doing a thesis at Queen's making comparisons between the Republican Conflict in Ireland and the Basque campaign in Spain. He said to me, "I like what you said about not condemning people for politics or religious beliefs or sexual lifestyle, but of God loving everyone". Although I did underline the importance of repentance, which he understood.

9. Met with Kevin the muffin man for a while before having dinner. So from Jeffrey Donaldson to Eddie Copeland to Gerry Adams to Kevin the muffin man!

10. 7.10 pm Writing this email!

Weekly Contact 1 August 2010

Whoooo Hoooo! What a Day! Coffee & Tea greeted us in the foyer, provided by Revolution Youth at a £1 per cup to help with some of their plans. After we got everyone inside we got right into some amazing worship. It did not take long to fill the place with the sound of heartfelt worship and praise. It was also great to see and welcome so many visitors.

Refuge in Worship #2: This was the second part of the message I brought last week. I hope you all felt as good hearing the message as I did speaking it. It was just amazing! I began by repeating and adding to the 1st two points I had brought last week. These were:

1. A True Worshipper will seek the face of God, with others and alone in the Secret Place.
2. A True Worshipper will not need to be coerced into God's Presence.

The third and final point I made in this message was:

3. A True Worshipper will honour God in Lifestyle. Paul said, "With unveiled faces we reflect the Lord's Glory" (2Cor.3:18). This means we will honour God in our public lifestyle. Moses' face shone after he had been with God. When Peter and John were walking through the market place the people commented that they had been with Jesus. There was something about them that made it clear they had been with Jesus. They reflected Christ because they had been with him.

The fact is when you spend time with God you will not need to put on airs and graces and pretend you're better than others. There will be something about you're lifestyle that looks better than the brand name clothes you wear; that speaks louder than the words that come out of your mouth; and sounds sweeter than the songs you sing.  Your face might not shine like Moses', but your lifestyle, the way you live in public, at home, in the work place, at school, in the community, will be enough for others to know you have been with Jesus.

At the end of the message two people, a man and a young lad, raised their hands to indicate they had committed their lives to Christ. I spoke with the man afterwards. I cannot write anything about him at the moment, but this was so amazing! It was his first time in a church like ours. He had been brought up Catholic, but had rejected the teaching of the church years ago. He said that at first he did not feel comfortable when we started to sing etc, but he settled and enjoyed the service. He said that everything I said made sense (so what's new?). Let's continue to thank God for salvations.

Let me add this as a side note, but an important side note: At the beginning of the message I went into free flow for about five minutes when talking about True Worshippers. I made it absolutely clear that we do not condemn people and do not reject them on the basis of religion, politics, colour of skin or sexual lifestyle and choices. I again said, as I have done many times, that Jesus declared he did not come into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. If Jesus did not condemn the world, why then should we? We have no right to do what he did not do. We have no right to slap people over the head with the Bible, but we're to love them into the Kingdom of God. However, we always have the right and the responsibility to proclaim the truth of God's Word. This is my position, and is therefore the position of New Life City Church.

Sunday Night Worship Special: A great night that had something of everything and something for everyone. Praise, worship, dance, reflection, encouragement, prayer ministry etc. At one point I shared how God had shown me a waterfall. It was narrow, but very high. It's source was not the earth, but was heaven. At the bottom of the waterfall was a large pool or lake. The water flowing into this pool was bringing with it the blessings of heaven. I felt the need to invite people to step in by faith and receive healing, wholeness or whatever it was they needed from God. To do so where each person stood or to step forward for prayer. Some people came forward. Nicky Stronge came forward with Stephanie as Stephanie needed prayer. Nicky shared with me that before I got up to speak she saw that I was covered or surrounded with water, and then I got up and talked about the waterfall! Let's continue to believe God for great things to be done and for some amazing testimonies.

Thanks to Kevin who supplied free muffins (not three muffins; free muffins) to be sold by the youth with the tea and coffee tonight. They raised £60 on their first day. Mark says "Thanks" to everyone who bought tea and coffee. Regarding Kevin and FEED; he can do with your help by using FEED on the Shankill and the Falls. Why not plan to call in from time to time and support his efforts? Go for it!

This coming week:

Monday Prayer time: 12.45 pm. Upstairs in the Prayer Room at City LIFE Centre
Prayer & Bible Study: Thursday at 7.45 pm
Sunday 11.30 am Worship; Teaching; Communion

Funniest thing today: When Billy Potts handed the communion tray to Sally Speers she took a cup and tried to drink from it, but it was empty as someone else had already drank from that cup. Bill said to Sally, "You should've gone to specsavers!!!!"

Newsletter: Thanks again to Bill Manwaring for the new Newsletter. Please make sure you email Bill if there is something you need put in it. Team Leaders, please use this as a means of passing information on.

Thanks again to everyone who works hard for the development and advancement of New Life City Church.

Have a great week. Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.
