Sorry for the delay in getting out this week's Weekly Contact. I've been taken up with the cross!
Stand in the Gap (Ezek. 22:30): Last Sunday's service "Stand in the Gap" was another one of those memorable occasions. It was a joy to see so many come together for worship, fellowship and for the study of God's Word. The worship was special. The video presentation starring Messer's Cartmill; Murph; Mogey and Kippers should receive several Oscars, or least be nominated! Well done guys for not only making us laugh, but for making us think and for challenging us to Stand in the Gap. Thanks to John for his summation, using the wheel showing the hub, the spokes and the outer rim representing the church (the hub), the teams within the church (the spokes) and the community (the rim).
Afterwards I reminded the church and commended it for those times when we as a church stood in the gap on behalf of the community, whether it way during feuds; doing prayer walks or scattering seed etc. I showed how that when challenged to stand in the gap even at times of great risk we were not found wanting. However, while we have responded well to such challenges we need to be careful we do not fall short when it comes to the simpler and more straightforward challenges of what we see as "normal church life", which is represented by the various teams. We were reminded of the greatest gap that has ever existed between God and man because of sin, and how that Christ stepped forward and stood in the gap. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world..."
At the end of the service several people signed up to help and serve in teams that required additional support. We deeply appreciate this response. However, Revolution Youth still needs drivers!!! Please see Youth Pastor Mark Crothers if you can help. Mark and Revolution Youth want to thank everyone who buys tea and coffee on Sundays as it provides welcome funds for their work.
Prayer Ministry Team: On Sunday night I met with the new Prayer Ministry. There are 14 on the Team; Billy Potts is the Team Leader. As of from today this Team will be available to prayer for people whenever required by Pastors Jack and Jonathan and other speakers. The following is from John Cartmill: Thomas's birthday is coming up in January; he will be 50. (I know he looks younger than me). We are booking the large function room at the Knoaghalodge on Fri 21st Jan 2010. We are inviting all who come to church to come along on the night. We are putting food on, dj, etc and need to know numbers to justify using the large room. This is a SURPRISE and he will know nothing about it. Let me know if you wish to attend please as we need to determine numbers. Contact alrightsonyes@hotmail.com
Thanks again to everyone who works hard for the development and advancement of New Life City Church.
Have a great week. Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.
Pastor Jack
