Press Release Re Suicide

C U @ the CROSS is the churches' response to the tragedy of suicide across Belfast and beyond, but especially within west and north Belfast. This is a campaign against suicide and its causes showing there is a Better Way.

The campaign has been going a few weeks now, but is picking up momentum as it moves towards the 6th November when it will conclude with two special events. The first will be a gathering between the security gates in Northumberland at 12 noon. Many people and churches across the city are planning to attend this event to express solidarity with all who have suffered tragic loss that has impacted and devastated families and communities on both sides of the wall. The second event will be at 7.30 in the evening at New Life City Church, Northumberland Street, with special guest John Edwards from Dublin who will share an amazing story from hopelessness to hope and who now lives to help others.

The organising committee commend the great work that others are doing across the community, but Pastor Jack McKee, on behalf of the committee, said, "The church needs to do more than bury the victims of suicide, it needs to do its utmost to help prevent it". He further stated, "Recent suicides have had such an impact on my life that as a local pastor I have had one of those Popeye moments where I have said, "That's all I can stands; I can't stands no more"". Someone had said, "Jack, you should not get angry",  but Jack responded by saying, "Sometimes anger is all we have left". He further states, "The church is damned if it does nothing and it's damned when it does something! So I'd rather be damned for doing something, than damned for doing nothing".

While there will be a short service between the gates at 12 noon, this is not about the promotion of religion; it is not an ecumenical service; it is not about the promotion of any individual church; and it is definitely not political or sectarian, but is quite simply the church saying to everyone, "There is a Better Way that brings hope and purpose". We will take the opportunity to pray for all who have been affected and to pray for the future of all our children and young people.

The above events are open to everyone.

C U @ X

Excellent James. I notice the anointing increased after Kippers had left!

Sent: Monday, October 18, 2010 12:09 AM
Subject: C U @ X

Fourth night over and felt a bit different tonight there was something
barring my prayers Kips joined me tonight and it was alot quieter although
we thought we heared the spiritulist church as we were walking mayby this
was what was different. Kippers walked me back to the house and left but I
felt that my walk tonight wasn't over so after he left I went back to the
wall and started to pray again and there was a better flow.

I got a phone call tonight asking for advice on a young man who was suicidal
and wants help to work things out this is all we ask that those who are
suffering would call out for help and that we would be led to help where we
can.

God bless

Weekly Contact 17 October 2010

What a weekend with Dennis Goldsworthy. Both Saturday night and Sunday morning were amazing. I have no doubt that several people had very real and life changing encounters with God. I will not mention names, but on Saturday night several people testified that as they step up to the front they felt as if they were stepping into something tangible. There was dancing, laughter and weeping as people experienced and responded to the presence of God. Sunday morning was much the same, only on a greater scale as many more entered in and embraced the presence of God. There was no hype, but a genuine desire to respond to and embrace the truth of God's Word by taking hold of our God given inheritance.

On Saturday night Dennis spoke on "The Revelation of who you are". You are a son, a daughter, of the living God, predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son (Rom. 8:29). The purpose of this is not more meetings, but a greater knowledge (experiential knowledge) of the presence of God, so that we worship God out of who we are. If God took away many of the backbiting, negative, critical Christians the church would shrink in number, but the giving would not shrink and the worship would not shrink. What's important is not only that we know Him in terms of knowing we are saved to one day go to heaven, but that we KNOW Him because we have a revelation of who we are.

On Sunday morning Dennis spoke on "The Revelation of what it means to know Him". Those who truly know Him will pursue and embrace the fullness of the measure of Christ, and will walk and live in that fullness. They know that the way in (which is faith) is also the way forward (faith). Those who do not embrace this fullness believe they receive Christ by faith and then work for the rest! But those who have received the revelation of what it means to know Him understand that the purpose of knowing Him is that we attain the whole measure of the fullness of Christ (Eph. 4:13).

The weekend also included the dedication of baby Joshua Christopher Edmunds, child of Chris and Rose. It was such an honour to dedicate this little one and to add our prayers to that of his parents and friends for his complete healing. Thanks to Jim Weir for blessing us with two great songs on Saturday night and to Lee McClelland of Teen Challenge for presenting Pauline Coney with a Bible to mark her graduation from Teen Challenge. Well done Pauline. We are all proud of you and continue to pray for you and your children.

LIFE Croups. I want to highlight these as I believe they will be critical to the development of New Life and to the growth of every believer. I cannot underline enough the importance of getting involved in one of these. If you want to know when and where (every fortnight) please contact Gareth at Spudmurphy123@btinternet.com

C U @ the CROSS PRAYER. James Scott has been so moved by God to Prayer Walk the wall up to the day of C U @ the CROSS. He begins at the New Life Mural at 10 pm. In recent nights he has been joined by Colin Houston, Kippers, John Cartmill, Thomas, Davey Nesbitt, Andrew Higgins. Some walked with him, while others stopped by to encourage him. WHY NOT JOIN HIM EVEN FOR ONE NIGHT!!!

Thanks again to everyone who works hard for the development and advancement of New Life City Church.

Have a great week. Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.

Re Come on Down

How much did last night impact those who were there? Well, I got this from James Scott before midnight last night:
It was good to be in church tonight, it has been the first Thursday I have been free to come to the prayer meeting. It's so good to be in fellowship with other seekers of God.

I felt drawn as many were to a vision of the so called peace wall. I felt that God was telling me that the physical wall was only a symbol and like all man made objects would eventually crumble.  In fact the wall symbolised the barrier that exists within the hearts of those in our community.  It's not until those walls crumble that this wall will fall.

I took this opportunity to walk the length of the wall praying for reconciliation in the hearts of the community and that the wall would be  taken down in the Glorification of God.  I did this for about 40 minutes I will continue to do this each night for 7 days or until God leads me not to.

While I was walking I prayed that the evil that existed here would be taken away and that the devil would loose the power hold in the communitity; just then a group of four young lads came walking up alongside me on the otherside of the road. I prayed that they would be apart of Gods plan in reconciliation. They turned to look at me and started laughing and threw stones across the road. I prayed that God would protect me.  They stopped and looked over at me walking along and then put their heads down and walked off.

The devil does not have hold on that which God has created

God Bless
James

Special Update

I know some of you don't like last minute things! If that's you, you need to loosen up! We had a great time tonight with Doug Norwood of Broken Jar Ministries. His message was another right on word. He reminded us that Jesus came on a mission, which was to fulfil the purposes and the plans of God and to totally destroy the works of Satan. He said that our mission is to destroy the walls of division between people and God and walls that divide people; that ours is the ministry of reconciliation.

He said that in this mission God will instruct us to do some crazy things, just like he instructed Joshua and the people to walk around the walls of Jericho; not only to do so once each day for six days and then seven times on the seventh day when they should have been resting!!!

He shared 3 Secrets to Spiritual Success as follows:

1. Perseverance. Patience is the ability to wait, but perseverance is what keeps you going: Six days... Seven times on seventh day...Perseverance.

2. Obedience. To do what God instructs you to do regardless of how crazy it seems or regardless of what others might say.

3. Praise: regardless of your circumstances. God dwells in the praises of his people. Thanksgiving is what you give when you've got something; Praise is what you give even when you've got nothing. This reminded me of our verse, "You will call your walls salvation, and your gates praise" (Isa. 60:18).

We finished off with a fabulous time of prayer and with an amazing time of praise.

Thanks to Colin Houston for making the contact and for speaking to the group of pastors today about C U @ the CROSS.

Prayer Request from John Cartmill:
Jack really need this situation lifted up in prayer. My niece's new born baby Molly Margaret 6 days old now has been transferred to  intensive care unit in Antrim. She's has lost weight and continues to feed 8 mls in the last 24 hours. A dire situation for Molly, her mum, dad and the greater family circle. Please pass this onto the church asking for prayer, trusting this will be an awesome testimony in the forthcoming weeks. My sister has asked we pray.

Keep her lit! God bless, John Cartmill

Weekly Contact Sun 10 October 2010

What a morning at New Life! The presence of God was truly amazing. It was so intense, because it was so real. Heaven came down and glory filled our souls. People's lives were touched as many literally came to the cross and as the Prayer Team moved among them and prayed for them. Thank God also that one person responded to the appeal and committed her life to Christ.

Thanks to Dickson, Andrew, Mark and Aine for the readings. The impact of music and lights etc was amazing (thanks Gareth), but let's keep in mind "It's not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord".

The message I brought was "C U @ the CROSS", a Campaign against suicide and its causes. I asked the question, Why should the church be involved in this and other similar issues? Why not leave this to others in the community? I gave three reasons as follows:

1. Because we are part of the community. We are not just called to attend church; we are called to impact the community.

2. Because the church is damned if it does something and it's damned if it does nothing: I would rather be damned for something positive than be damned for doing nothing.

3. Because the church has the real answer: The answer is not a new programme, nor a new project; nor is it turning over a new leaf. The answer is a New Life, thus the core point of our campaign "Showing there is a Better Way". That better way is Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life.

So who was at the Cross? 1. The Mockers were there. 2. The Religious were there. 3. The Crowd was there. 4. The Fearful were there. But hey! The Committed were there. The committed are those who step up and indentify themselves with the Cross and with Christ. The committed are those who say, "If this is what he has done for me, then the least I can do for him is to meet him at the Cross.

The Cross is where I lay down my life with Christ and for Christ, so that it is no longer I who lives, but Christ who lives in me. This led me to say, you can't kill a dead person! The Cross is where you lay down your life and take on his life. The Cross is where you lay down your rights and where you take up his cause and the cause of his Kingdom so that it's no longer what you want, but it's what he wants. The Cross is where you lay down your sin and take up his forgiveness.
Afterwards we had an amazing time of communion, ministry and worship.

MOMENTUM: A Great night with the men. We listened to Craig Groeschel on LOYALTY. It was AMAZING, especially when he did "Sarcastic Craig". We were challenged on loyalty with our wives; loyalty to our friends; loyalty to the church. We then had an excellent discussion on the subject matter. Thanks Gareth and the MOMENTUM Team for a great night.

Next Saturday 16 October 7.30 pm: NOT TO BE MISSED: A special event with guest speaker Pastor Dennis Goldsworthy from San Antonio, Texas. Also taking part will be local singer Jim Weir and a special dedication. We will also being promoting C U @ the CROSS. Please plan to join with us and invite your friends.

Thanks again to everyone who works hard for the development and advancement of New Life City Church.

Have a great week. Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.

IMPORTANT DATES

Can I suggest that if there is anything going on in any church that could involve others and could benefit the entire community that you email the information to those of us on your list and simply ask us to pass it on.

We will not get to everything, but we might get to some things and at the very least we will be aware of what's happening.

It would be great if someone could collate as full a list as possible of all church emails within the Shankill, and let's at least use this tech to stay connected.

Please forward these dates to those on your email list.

Saturday 16 October 7.30 pm: New Life City Church, Northumberland Street: Special promo event for C U @ the Cross. Jack McKee will present the reason behind C U @ the Cross. Jim Weir will sing. There will be a Dedication of a baby when prayer will also be made for the future of all children within the City. Special guest speaker is Dennis Goldsworthy, pastor of Oasis International Community Church in San Antonio, Texas.

Wednesday 3 November 7.30 pm - 9.00 pm: Prayer Walk through the streets of the Shankill and Falls, finishing off at Woodvale Methodist for tea. Every church is invited to participate, especially around the immediate area of the church. Some might Prayer Walk the same streets, but that's okay! Let's just get out there and pray. The focus for prayer should be: the Youth in our community and our city; for Hope to be restored; pray against all negative influences in our community such as ongoing paramilitary control; drug dealers; mediums; the spirit of suicide and the spirit of brokenness; pray for C U @ the CROSS, that the message of the CROSS will impact our people - Jesus died so that we can live.

Saturday 6 November 12 noon - 12.30 pm: C U @ the CROSS. Everyone is invited to meet at a large cross between the gates in Northumberland Street. This day will be dedicated to the memory of all who have sadly taken their own lives across the Shankill and the Falls community and beyond, but with the clear message that suicide is NOT the answer, and that there is a BETTER WAY.

Saturday 6th November 7.30 pm there will be a special concert at New Life City Church to conclude C U @ the CROSS. Taking part will be the New Life Worship Team; local singer Jim Weir; and special guest John Edwards from Dublin; an amazing and miraculous story from a man who lost hope, but had that hope restored and now lives to help others.

Please forward the above to those on your email list. Some might get it several times, but that would be a good sign.

The Lord Bless you and your ministry.

Encouraging Word

Colin Houston brought an excellent word last night as he encouraged us as individuals and as a church, regardless of what we go through, to pursue the presence of God. He said many good things, but one that sticks out was "You cannot have the power of God without the presence of God". This means we should seek his presence rather than seek his power, because when we get his presence, we will get his power!

Thanks Colin.

Jack

Temperature Rising

Just thought I would send a note of encouragement. It is my firm conviction that the temperature is rising at New Life and that it will continue to do so in the coming weeks and months. The devil's been having a go, but what's new! God is GREATER; we are Greater, and "When the enemy comes in, like a flood the Spirit of the Lord raises up a standard against him". We are not defeated! I am not defeated! YOU are not defeated!

PRAYER TIME: Last night was truly amazing! The sense of the presence of God filled the room as people prayed and cried out to God in prayer and praise. There were 19 in the room, which was way more than the numbers that met for church in the early days of New Life. Thanks to everyone who prays and who comes together to pray with others.

GOD ANSWERS PRAYER: We are seeing this in various ways: an increased sense of God's presence, and answered prayer on behalf of the church and of individual needs. Alex's niece Kathy continues to make progress. She was facing death; on life support; liver died; prayed for; began to improve; transferred to hospital in England for a transplant; more prayer; got to hospital; her liver revived; doctor said it was a miracle; she did not need a transplant; has been recovering and making progress; family amazed.

Great to get prayer requests. When these are received they are passed on to people who pray. However, let's have some PRAISE REPORTS. Let's talk up the good things that are happening. Things like: Great Weekend with Jarrod Cooper; JC's up to 70 kids on Friday nights; GLOW had 60 women at the Pamper Night, including several from the Travelling Community in west Belfast; GLOW had another great turn out on Sunday night as Pauline shared her testimony.

With that in mind let me remind the men that Momentum is on this coming Sunday night. Come on ahead men; let's follow the example of the women and let's get out to meet with each other; the fellowship and teaching etc is second to none. It would be great if all of our women supported GLOW and all of our men supported Momentum, but you're not responsible for all; you're only responsible for you. Don't be the one to miss out.

PRAYER CARDS: These are available on the table in the church. If people require prayer they can fill in a card and we will pray with them or pray for them during the service. I actually left some of these on a table upstairs. When I spoke with some of those in Celebrate Recovery I was making my way across to the Prayer Room when a young woman met me at the bottom of the stairs. She handed me a prayer card, which she had completed, and asked if we would pray for her during our prayer time, which we did, as well as praying for Celebrate Recovery, as we do every week. Let's continue to pray for one another and let's share praise when God answers prayer.

Have a great weekend. Today is Friday, but Sunday's coming! See you all then.

just to let you know paula had a baby boy by c section at 3.55 this afternoon mum and baby are fine we are calling him samuel he was 9.5 in weight could you let all the new lifers know over the moon another male in the house ha see you at the cross.

Well done Paula and Roy. I think I just heard God say, "Tell them enough now!!!"

Prayer

From Aine:

I sent you this email a few months ago about my Cousin. This Thursday he will be undergoing major surgery to attempt to remove the tumour from his brain. I would appreciate it if you could forward this email to all your contacts to get a large chain of believers praying for his full recovery.

Many Thanks
Aine.

Also: last week we sent a request to pray for Alex's niece Kathy. She was so close to death that doctors were talking about turning off the machine. They said her liver was dead and she needed an urgent transplant; she would need to be transferred to a hospital in London, but could not be moved as she was so ill. However, she miraculously showed signs of improvement to the point where the doctors decided to transfer her, but by the time she was transferred to London her dead liver revived! One doctor said it was a miracle! There are other parts to the story that are freaky. We will share these later. Kathy is still in hospital, but from what I know she is out of danger and it's just a matter of time before she is home! Do we praise God or what!!!

It's great to pray for each other and for others. Don't forget the Prayer Time on Thursday night at 7.45. I have asked Colin Houston to share a word for 15 minutes. Looking forward to it already!

God is Good.

Weekly Contact 3 October 2010

What a weekend at New Life City Church with one of the best teachers and motivators on the subject of worship, Jarrod Cooper from New Life, Hull. Totally awesome Saturday morning and Sunday morning. Let me give you some bullet points with a few comments from Jarrod as follows:

Saturday:

Worship is not about the stuff, it's about the presence and the glory of God. It's great to have the stuff, i.e. the lights and equipment etc, but you can have the presence and the glory of God without the stuff. There is a danger in the modern church to miss the glory of God and to just become a trendy place!

It is not the Worship Leader's responsibility to usher in the presence of God, nor is it the Pastor's, but it's the people coming together and bringing the presence of God with them.

I Sam. 10:5. True worship comes from the anointing of the Spirit God. The anointing is accompanied with a procession of the prophets, music, prophesying and the presence of God. Phil. 3:3 Shows we worship by the Spirit of God, so that it's not from me; it is from God and returns to God through us, thus giving us the privilege of participating in the Divine Nature through worship (man that is so awesome!).

1 Sam. 10:6. The Spirit of the Lord was on Saul. When the anointing of God is on us something to us and people get affected. Exod. 33:14 God told Moses that his presence would go with him. Moses responded by saying, "If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here". It is the presence of God we should be pursuing, for it is the presence of God that distinguishes us. We need, and others need, to recognise the presence of God. There should be a presence in us and around us.

The Glory of God is most powerful in its original. We do not need to anyone else. (Again totally awesome!). We need to watch we do not get in the way. We are not club singers; we are glory carriers. Without this we can so easily get to the point where we can do church without God.

Three things that hinder the Glory: 1) We lose the Glory when we become more focused on programmes than on presence; we must sing these songs, cause we've picked them; we must follow this set-list or order because it's what we do. 2) When we allow religion to take control by simply becoming religious about what we do and therefore presenting worship in vain (Mark 7:6). 3) When the platform is filled with timidity.

The Power and the Glory of God is just the other side of obedience.

Sunday Morning

Four things about Praise and Presence:

1. The Power and the Presence of God: This is what changes the atmosphere around us; our community; our nation etc.

2. Obedience releases the Presence and the Glory. We miss the moves of God because of disobedience, or by just being religious.

3. Our Voices release the Presence and the Glory. Prov. 18:21 "Death and life are in the power of the tongue". In Revelation, the words of Jesus are like a sword coming from his mouth. We can speak to the mountain etc.

4. Our bodies can release the Presence and the Glory of God. In Romans 12 Paul says that yielding our body unto God is our reasonable act of worship. Raised hands in surrender; clapping; walking; running; dancing etc.

Jarrod Cooper totally loved being with us

Enough for now. Enjoy GLOW tonight and the rest of the week.

Thanks again to everyone who works hard for the development and advancement of New Life City Church.

Have a great week. Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.

Pastor Jack
