Weekly Contact 11 August 2009

Sunday 9 August was a landmark day for New Life City Church. It was the day when we established what we're about as a church. This was helped with David's Wilkerson's cry of Anguish that deeply impacted all of us who were present and that led so naturally into the message I brought. The core of what David Wilkerson said and of the message I brought (no comparison between me and David Wilkerson) was that the church is impacting the church more than it is impacting the world. This is evidenced in statistics that show that 95% of what goes on in most churches is organised for the Christians, and the other 5% for those who are outside the church. I would recommend you order the DVD for £3 or wait for the series of 4 for £10. But last Sunday mornings is a must.

Sunday night: Craig Seawright brought a message on the heels of the morning message. He talked about being driven and motivated by zeal. A Godly zeal that ensures you will not be content with where you are, but will not be frustrated with where you are, because where you are is leading you to your next level.

Craig talked about the importance of "wearing Jesus" so that Jesus is seen in our lives, in our marriages and in our finances etc. People need to see God in us, but this means being willing to change. But why are we not changing? Because what we hear with our ears does not penetrate our thinking. It's not sinking in. We can agree with what we hear; we can say "Amen", but where's the fruit? It comes down to our thinking and how we feel. If we want to change how we feel, we need to change the way we think. We can change how we think by:

1. Sow to the spirit and not to the flesh
2. Talk positively to yourself
3. Be a doer of the Word

Let's thank God for this day and let's respond to it individually and as a church by applying the teaching and the experience to our lives.

Fundraising: Great news on Sunday that we raised almost £1,500 last Saturday and almost £3,500 from the abseil. Let's stay focused and let's keep the effort going. Thanks to everyone who organised, participated and donated. Soon we will see the fruit of our efforts.

Prayer Time: Thursday night at 7.45 pm at City LIFE Centre

Friday Night Home Group: West Belfast. Please pray for this and for those who attend. The last time we met we prayed about a situation that looked quite bleak, but God answered prayer on the following Monday night!

Cross Vigil: Check out the details of this on the Home Page "Cross Vigil" of our web site www.newlifecitychurch.co.uk I have set up a World Prayer Map. I will not add anyone's name unless they request it and I will assume that once you have signed up that you will take time to pray at some point during the 7 weeks. Send me an email or sign up on the events page on Facebook.

Stay focused; stay strong; and keep being a God-influence.
